Designed for the demands of bikepacking and singletrack riding, Trail Panniers feature specific elements unique from off-the-shelf touring or commuting panniers.
Each single pannier has a maximum capacity of 8L, or 5.5L when the roll top is rolled down. At a total 16L per pair, it is the capacity of some of the large saddlebags on the market.
Unlike non-fully waterproof pannier offerings from many other small makers, the Paper Road Trail panniers are constructed to easily allow optimal seam taping or the option of adding a seam-taped waterproof liner.
Perfect for more storage in addition to a dry roll on top of the rack, or run them with a saddlebag.
Update 17th June 2026:
- New structural design stress tested by a Rotorua mountainbiker on a rigid bike on the Western Okaitaina Walkway and the Whakawerawera Forest Loop loaded with dive weights.
- Further testing still in progress.
- These are scheduled to return by August. If you've been waiting for these, I appreciate your support!
- If you're looking for panniers that are easy to remove and has the full features you're dreaming of, something new is coming!

Features
Low profile: at only 9cm deep, the profile is a more aerodynamic design and allows your bike to fit through most squeeze gates and narrow bridges.
Construction: unique wrap-around front panel design. This omits a long length of seam that's usually found in ordinary pannier designs. Less seams = less water ingress.
Fits most racks: But not T-racks. There are 4x velcro strap slots per bag. The ideal setup using the outer two slots will fit the OMM Divide, Ortlieb Quick Rack & Tumbleweed Chromoly and other larger touring racks. The distance between either ends of the slots is 190mm.
Velcro straps: Velcro's sheer strength makes it more secure and impossible for bags to bounce off. The lack of hardware and mounting parts is a better safeguard against failure when riding in remote places.
Structure: supported by a new and improved triple-layered reinforced structure along the mounting rail to withstand vibrations and to support the jarring motions of riding off-road. Laser-cut military-style PALs fabric and polypropylene are stitched through the backing fabric. The panniers have a lightweight, rigid coreflute inner backing.
Pack it to the top: with the top velcro strip to seal the opening, it's possible but it's recommended you roll the top 3 times. This special velcro used does not catch onto clothes easily.
Tested in the wild: Paper Roads is synonymous with bikepacking and is very much involved with their products in use in real situations. Customer feedback is received seriously – that is why the latest revision is more structural than ever and stress tested by one of our willing customers on some of the roughest terrain for bikepacking.
Usage & Care information
Usage & Care information
- Please note these are small, bikepacking panniers at 8L maximum each. Ideally used alongside other bags to distribute the weight across your bike. If you have trouble packing minimally, please seek advice, or look for touring sized panniers. Maxxing out these panniers until the top doesn't close is incorrect usage.
- To install, make sure the rear velcro straps are in correct slots for your pannier rack rail. If you need to shift them, pull the strap out and shift to the next slot. Use something like a flathead screwdriver to lever the aluminium batten so that the strap wraps around it.
- Secure the lower part of the pannier by weaving the webbing strap around each strut.
- ALWAYS PULL STRAPS TIGHT. Always test stability before heading out. Loosely mounted panniers will get damaged and can even damage your bike.
- T-racks such as OMM Elkhorn and Tumbleweed T-rack are NOT for panniers.
- You may need to shuffle the panniers further back depending on your geometry, pannier rack design or if you ride a small frame.
- Do not throw into washing machine or dryer.
- Scrub with a plastic bristle brush
- If doing a thorough clean, use Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarWash and SolarProof.
- Do no use detergents or softeners
