Fabric & Colour Options
If you're ordering a custom bag, there are assigned colour panels for which you can specify your own colours from the swatches below. You can mix all of the options (Ecopak and X-pac) together.
Challenge Sailcloth Ecopak Range
Durable, waterproof & environmentally responsible pack fabric made from 100% recycled polyester, with every yard of fabric containing over 20 bottles. Ecopak is DWR (C0) coated for waterproofness. These fabrics are some of the most recent advances in low carbon emission textile manufacturing.
The EPX & EPLX range with multi-ply construction performs excellently for bikepacking bags.
Ecopak EPLX400
What sets EPLX400 fabrics apart from the EPX200 range is the plastic film laminate on the reverse side, which makes it impossible for water to get through. EPLX400 is slightly heavier than EPX200 and more abrasion resistant. It's still very much an ultralight fabric.
Ecopak EPLX200
EPX200 fabrics perform well all-round on bikepacking bags. They won't be used in high-abrasion areas. It is softer and lighter than EPLX400, so internal structure like foam will be used where suitable to give the product more body. EPX200 are DWR (C0) coated which causes water to bead up, and is backed with a woven ripstop face. Water will penetrate after an amount of rain, however most parts of Paper Roads bags are lined with a water-resistant PU coated liner.
Dimension-Polyant X-pac Range
These ultra-light and ultra-tough fabrics are designed for outdoor pack equipment, developed from Dimension-Polyant's long history in producing fabric for the world's finest and most advanced sails.
For waterproofness, the X-pac range is DWR coated. Their multi-layer laminate construction provides ample durability and strength on Paper Roads' custom colour panels. *Note that the '15' weight is ideal for the main body panel of framebags. The '07' weight is a lot lighter and suits smaller panels.
Other Fabrics
Other fabrics more specific to particular types of bags or usage are also stocked at Paper Roads.
'Behind the counter' Challenge Sailcloth fabrics include: Ultra200 Gunmetal, Ultra400 Midnight Blue, EPLX600 Black and EPLX600 Marigold. All fabrics are 100% waterproof with plastic laminate backing. They will incur a surcharge to use for custom or made-to-order products as they are a bit more pricey (around $70-100/m as opposed to $55/m) and some with UHMWPE fibres are hard to cut with scissors. If you want either a very hi-tech, tough bag for little weight or tough, stiff (like card) and heavy, please get in touch to discuss.
There is a small amount of 0.67oz/yd Dyneema in stock, in clear and is extremely thin. It can be taped and suitable for small dry bags or drawstring bags.
There is Kodra 1000d in stock with PU coating, which is equivalent to Cordura. It is a very ordinary looking pack fabric, more conventional, heavy, thick but not stiff.
Please enquire if you're interested in using any of these fabrics for your order.
